The Center for Entrepreneurship and Spatial Economics (CEnSE) at Jönköping International Business School has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund for research on local innovation processes and networks in Jönköping Region. The project will focus on the importance of firm-level linkages and collaborations in local innovation processes. The Jönköping Region is particularly interesting in this context since it hosts a business sector renowned for its strong entrepreneurial spirit and its large fraction of small and medium sized firms. This research is of great interest to CESIS’ current research on innovation networks and Sara Johansson, CESIS researcher, will be largely involved in the project. The project will start next year and proceed during three years.

New entrants into an industry leads to an immediate negative influence on the productivity of existing firms, but several years after the initial entry, entry has positive productivity effects. The paper reporting these new findings, co-authored by CESIS researchers Pontus Braunerhjelm and Per Thulin and CIRCLE's Martin Andersson has quickly received much attention; it was ranked number 1 in Sweden and number 14 globally by September downloads.
