The Role of Metropolitan Regions in the Swedish Economy
This research project focuses on the role of metropolitan regions for business renewal, innovation and growth. It is divided into two parts. The first part analyses the overall role of metropolitan regions for economies. An important perspective in here is the differences in the economic structure between metro-regions and other regions, where the diversity in a metro-region is a fundamental explanation. The second part of the project focuses on European perspectives on Sweden’s metropolitan regions. Functional urban regions in Europe are compared with the Swedish ones. This part also comprises a recapitulation of previous regression exercises on the relationship between population growth and GDP.
